Presented by The Ringgold Youth Council

A Night Out with Living Legends is an interview-style series that lets attendees listen to and ask questions of the featured guest speakers. On September 10th at the Ringgold Depot, the Ringgold Youth Council will be hosting its second Living Legends program featuring the story of Mattie Green as told by her daughter, Ruth Montgomery!

This is your chance to learn about one of Ringgold’s unsung heroines, Mattie Green, who was murdered sixty years ago when dynamite exploded under her home on Guyler Street. A 32-year-old mother of six, Mrs. Green was the only death resulting from the explosion, her two daughters were away from the home at the time, and her sons and husband Jethro all survived. An investigation by the Catoosa County Sheriff’s office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation never turned up any leads, and the case remains cold/closed despite having been reopened by the FBI in the early 2000s. Some of her descendants, including her daughter Ruth, live in Ringgold today. Join us as we hear Ruth’s stories about growing up in Ringgold.

The Ringgold Youth Council believes it is vital that all parts of Ringgold’s history are remembered, and they created this series so the public can learn more about the history that has yet to receive enough attention or exploration. A Night Out with Mattie Green & Ruth Montgomery and the other upcoming installments of this series are free and open to the public. Attendees can park in the public parking areas on and around Depot Street, as shown on the map below, and walk to the Ringgold Depot for the event.

Who are the other legends we will be chatting with? Find out soon! Keep an eye out here or on The Ringgold Youth Council’s Facebook Page to get the first look at all the exciting interviews to come.
